Mailbell

Your Gmail, from the toolbar. Nothing in between.

Mailbell tells you when mail arrives and lets you read, reply, archive and unsubscribe without opening Gmail. It has no server: your mail goes only between your browser and Google.

Free for Firefox 140+ and Chrome 120+, including Edge and Brave.

Private by design

Mailbell is built so there is nothing to trust but your browser and Google.

No server
It talks to the official Gmail API straight from your browser. No analytics, no telemetry, no account.
No tracking pixels
Remote images stay hidden until you allow them, so senders can't see when you open their mail.
Warns about fakes
Spoofed names, lookalike domains, Spam and mail that fails sender checks open as plain text, every link shown in full.
Open source
Every line is on GitHub under GPL-3.0. Your sign-in and cached mail stay on your device.

Install it, click the bell in your toolbar, and sign in with Google.

Until Google finishes reviewing Mailbell, sign-in shows a "Google hasn't verified this app" screen: choose Advanced, then continue. Why?
