Mailbell for Gmail (“Mailbell”) is a browser extension. This page explains what it does with your data.
What Mailbell accesses
When you sign in, you grant Mailbell the Google scope https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.modify. With it, Mailbell:
- reads your mail and labels, to show notifications, your inbox and whole threads;
- changes labels when you ask it to: read and unread, archive, spam and trash;
- sends mail only when you write and send a reply from Mailbell.
Mailbell cannot delete mail permanently.
Where your data goes
Your mail travels only between your browser and Google’s servers. Mailbell has no server of its own and does not send your data to the developer or to anyone else. It contains no analytics, advertising or telemetry.
Mailbell stores your sign-in tokens, settings and a cache of recent mail in your browser’s extension storage, on your device. Removing an account in Mailbell deletes its data there and revokes its token with Google. Uninstalling Mailbell deletes all of it.
Two actions contact a sender’s own servers, and only when you take them:
- Unsubscribe: Mailbell sends the sender’s one-click unsubscribe request, or opens the sender’s unsubscribe page.
- Images: a mail’s remote images load from the sender’s servers only if you allow them, for that mail or for that sender.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Mailbell’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Mailbell does not use Gmail data for advertising, does not sell it, does not transfer it to anyone, and does not let people read it. It does not use Gmail data to train AI or machine-learning models.
Changes and contact
